Warriors Weekly Rewind
The Warriors have their first win streak of the season! After their 0-6 start it couldn't have come at a better time.
- Game 6: Warriors 104, Pistons 111- In the second half the Warriors shot the lights on (or whatever you want to call the opposite of shooting the lights out) from the charity stripe and from downtown to lose their 6th straight.
- Game 7: Warriors 122, Clippers 105- With about 2 minutes left in the game the entire Roaracle Arena rose to the occasion and cheered on the Dubs as they went on a huge run to close out the game and collect their first W of the season.
- Game 8: Warriors 106, Raptors 100- Thanks to a serious 4th quarter meltdown by the Raptors at home the Warriors were able to sneak out of this breakfast battle with a W.
Tuesday November 20: Warriors @ Knicks
Warning Warriors fans: Do not look at the rebound totals in the boxscore. The Knicks should be able to easily dominate the Warriors on the glass with Zach Randolph (14.0 rpg), David Lee (9.0), Eddy Curry (6.9), and Quentin Richardson (5.9). If the Knicks are smart they'll pound the Warriors inside on offense and on D pack the zone, forcing the Warriors to rely on jump shots which they have yet to knock down for a full 48 minutes. The Knicks just have too much size and girth for the Warriors.
Here's hoping Nellie goes uber-small (is that word a contradiction in itself?), pushes the game to the Warrior Tempo we enjoyed last season, and the fellas knock down their shots and make their layups. It's the only chance they have as the Knicks are just one of those teams they don't match up well against.
Prediction: 1 for the L column
Wednesday November 21: Warriors @ Celtics
Warrior fans spent most of this past summer dreaming about various KG to the Bay scenarios. Unfortunately that didn't materialize and the Celtics remodeled their team by trading for 2 elite players in KG and Ray Allen. It's too bad the Warriors couldn't get Garnett into a Warriors jersey this summer, but as a basketball fan you have to marvel at the Celts' GPA trio. I'd give them a 4.0 so far this season.
Will this game be fun to watch? Can the Warriors get a win against the super trio of Garnett-Pierce-Allen on the second of a back-to-back on the road? Of course and probably not.
Prediction: Another one for the L column
Friday November 23: Warriors @ Wizards
There's nothing like a Friday late afternoon game against our old friends the Washington Warriors. Their superstar Gilbert Arenas is still feeling effects of his knee surgery and so far hasn't been close to the Agent Zero that delighted NBA nation in 06-07. Expect Baron Davis to dominate that match up on both sides of the ball. Our other old friend Antawn Jamison is struggling from the field, hitting only 37.3% of his shots as of Tuesday morning. On the other hand Caron Butler is having himself another solid season and should have a big game against the Warriors. Keep your eyes on Andray Blatche as well. If he can stay out of foul trouble he's going to be a tough match up for the Warriors on the glass and sprinkle in some blocks and steals.
The Dubs just need to hit their shots, keep the points coming, and they should be able to steal this game in the 4th.
Prediction: 1 for the W column
Saturday November 24: Warriors @ 76ers
Last year it took "The Drive" from Al Harrington in the closing seconds of the game to pull this one out, but this time it should be much, much easier. This is one of those rare games where no matter how bad the Warriors play on defense as long as they score at their usual rate they'll get an easy win. Every match up is in their favor except for the well-rounded Andre Iguodala who had a very impressive triple double (25 points, 10 rebounds, and 13 assists) against the Warriors last time around. Let's see if Stephen Jackson, Al Harrington, and Mickael Pietrus can shut down Iggy.
The other match up to focus on is Andris Biedrins versus Sixers' big man Samuel Dalembert. This will be a good measuring stick to see where Biedrins is at in terms of development. Both players can rebound and block some shots, but both also struggle with foul trouble.
Prediction: Another one for the W column
